This program, for teens just about to turn sixteen, introduces them to the responsibilities they will soon face behind the wheel. Because of its small class size of about one dozen, it enables the officer to speak to students in a close and friendly atmosphere. For most students, it will make their first encounter with a police officer a positive one. Sixteen minutes is a very effective tool in highway safety. Nighttime Safety Checkpoints The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department conducted its first nighttime traffic safety checkpoint during the August Mobilization. The photo shows the checkpoint in operation just before dark. With the Kutztown, Berks County fair taking place, traffic was just right for the checkpoint. Nighttime checkpoint equipment is available by contacting Region 3 law enforcement liaison Bob Webre. Speed Display Trailers Region 3 now has three speed trailers at its disposal.
- One trailer is being stored in DuPont, Luzerne County.
- Another trailer is stored in Saint Clair, Schuylkill County.
- Our original trailer is stored with the Hamburg, Berks County, Police Department.

If your department is interested in using the trailer, please contact Bob Webre to make arrangements. Survival 101Buckle Up Pennsylvania has a seat belt safety program called Survival 101. This program is designed for a police officer , who has obvious expertise in crashes, to talk to middle and high school students about the importance of wearing seatbelts while traveling in a vehicle. In this photo, Sergeant Roecker of the Wyomissing, Berks County Police Department, lectures the class. | | Robert Webre Region 3 LEL 1415 Congress Street
